Ecotherapy can be delivered in many different forms, depending on whether you want individualised one-to-one sessions or to take part in group based activities.

It is flexible and adapted to the particular needs of an individual, group or organisation. Depending on your needs it can be as short as several regular one hour sessions or a workshop or retreat lasting several days.

It may also be effectively combined with your normal 'Indoor Therapy' sessions.

Whether you are an individual, group or organisation, do get in touch to discuss your specific requirements or to ask further questions. Simply phone me on 0161 881 4333 or

Ecotherapy for Individuals:

Private One-to one Ecotherapy Sessions

Ecotherapy/Wilderness Therapy/Walking Therapy/Natural Awareness Therapy 1-2-1 Sessions

A very effective method of personal change, using all the benefits of counselling, psychotherapy and coaching, combined with relaxing, fun and challenging outdoor activities which use the natural environment, in order to aid your self-exploration and understanding, and stimulate your natural healing processes.

Suitable for anyone, but particularly effective for those who love nature and the outdoors, or those who feel uncomfortable with the traditional idea of therapy. May be successfully combined with my standard sessions held in my consulting room.

Usually held in the local nature reserve in Chorlton, or if you prefer a longer or more challenging session, or a different location, it can be held further afield, if you book a longer session.

Book a 1 hour, multi-hour, half day or full day session.

  • Booked at a time to suit you
  • All exercises make use of the natural environment to aid self exploration, reflection and integration
  • Lasting up to 90 minutes in the local nature reserve
  • Complements and works well with my office based 1-2-1 sessions or the nature-based group sessions.
  • Ecotherapies usually rely less on talking and intellectualisation, and more on experiential learning to increase self awareness and produce deep changes. This make it more suitable for those who either can't or don't want to talk in great depth about their thoughts, behaviours and feelings.
  • All treatment is carried out in a confidential, highly constructive, relaxed, supportive and non-judgemental environment
  • Advantages over group nature-based sessions :
    • Highly focused on your specific issues
    • Personal attention
    • The process is tailored uniquely to you and your requirements
    • More flexible time-wise. You book at a time that is convenient to you.
    • Less potential distraction
    • Highly confidential
  • Disadvantages over group sessions:
    • Group feedback gives multiple perspectives and greater opportunity for learning and growth
    • You miss out benefits gained from group interactions
    • Group sessions are cheaper as the cost is spread between attendees

When you are ready to make the inner changes you need, simply phone me on 0161 881 4333 or to make an appointment now, or to ask further questions.

Combined Indoor Therapy and Outdoor Ecotherapy Sessions

Your therapy will take place both inside and outside of the therapy room. This is a particularly effective method of personal change as it combines the therapeutic advantages of both the indoor and outdoor settings. It uses all the benefits of counselling, psychotherapy and coaching, combined with relaxing and sometimes challenging outdoor activities which encourage a connection with the natural world, to aid your self-exploration and understanding, and stimulate your natural healing processes.

The indoor and outdoor sessions are usually pre-planned so you know where and when our next meeting is due to occur. But if mutually agreed, a change of environment may occur spontaneously during the session if the need arises. So do attend your sessions prepared and dressed to go outside. The session format is slightly longer than normal therapy sessions to allow for transition times.

Nature-based therapy and coaching is suitable for anyone, but particularly effective for those who love nature and the outdoors, or those who feel uncomfortable with the traditional idea of therapy.

It can often rely less on talking and intellectualisation, and rely more on experiential learning to increase self awareness and produce deep changes. This can make it more suitable for those who either are unable to or don't want to talk in great depth about their thoughts, behaviours and feelings.

The outdoor portion of the therapy is usually held in the local nature reserve in Chorlton Ees.

  • Booked at a time to suit you
  • All outdoor exercises make use of the natural environment to aid self exploration, reflection and integration
  • Indoor activities use more traditional therapeutic processes combined with insights gained from the outdoor exercises.
  • The indoor and outdoor sessions complement each other very well, and can create a synergistic effect producing results that are better than either approached used individually.
  • Lasting up to 90 minutes in the local nature reserve
  • All treatment is carried out in a confidential, highly constructive, relaxed, supportive and non-judgemental environment
  • Advantages over group nature-based sessions :
    • Highly focused on your specific issues
    • Personal attention
    • The process is tailored uniquely to you and your requirements
    • More flexible time-wise. You book at a time that is convenient to you.
    • Less potential distraction
    • Highly confidential

One day ecotherapy workshop

The next open 1 day Ecotherapy Workshop will be:
1 Day Nature-based Therapy and Coaching Workshop
on Chorlton Ees, Chorlton, Manchester 16 June 2012

A relaxing day of reflective nature-based exercises and activities,
giving you the opportunity to reconnect with the natural world
and improve your mental and spiritual well-being.

This Ecotherapy workshop takes place in Chorlton Ees, Chorlton, South Manchester, and will consist of a variety of fun, enlightening and relaxing nature-based outdoor activities, games, awareness exercises, guided meditation, solo reflection time, and group discussion.

Ecotherapy deliberately encourages our instinctive deep connection with nature, and then utilises that relationship for personal development purposes. It draws its ideas from many different practices, both ancient and modern, including psychotherapy, counselling, nature-awareness, meditation, shamanism, and bushcraft.

Location: Chorlton Ees, Chorlton, Manchester
Duration: 1 Day
Full Fee: £80 Early Bird Fee: £60 (book before 30th April 2012) Finders Fee: Receive £10 for every person you recommend who then attends the workshop.
The meeting point and a list of the items you will need to bring will be sent with your booking confirmation.

Our time spent outside, surrounded by nature, is estimated at only 1% - 5%. As a modern society we have become increasingly disconnected from the natural world.
Research has shown that many very common conditions such as anxiety, confidence, depression, stress and addictions have improved simply by spending time connecting with nature. Anyone who has ever enjoyed spending time in the natural environment will already instinctively know this to be true.

Ecotherapy is often focused on experiential learning. Participants learn through engagement and immersing themselves in the environment and activities, as well as by talking about and sharing their insights and experiences.

Nature-based therapy and coaching can help with many emotional and behavioural issues. Almost anything you would consider visiting a counsellor, psychotherapist or life coach for would be suitable. It can also be successfully used in conjunction with more traditional indoor-based therapies.

"Just five minutes of exercise in a "green space" such as a park can boost mental health, researchers claim. There is growing evidence that combining activities such as walking or cycling with nature boosts well-being. In the latest analysis, UK researchers looked at evidence from 1,250 people in 10 studies and found fast improvements in mood and self-esteem."

"Country walks can help reduce depression and raise self-esteem according to research published today, leading to calls for "ecotherapy" to become a recognised treatment for people with mental health problems. Ecotherapy: the green agenda for mental health is the first study looking at how "green" exercise specifically affects those suffering from depression.
According to Mind, England and Wales's leading mental health charity, it produced "startling" results proving the need for ecotherapy to be considered a proper treatment option."
